5th Wheel Group Rallies
You do not have to be a member of the 5th Wheel Group. To attend you only have to be a NZMCA member.
If intending to attend any rallies, please advise the Rally Marshal. We need to have some idea of numbers to assist with organisation.
(HOWEVER: Discounted rates are ONLY available to 5th Wheel Members, or to those who pre-register - especially at Camp-Grounds!)

General DOG RULES - When Dogs are allowed at all:
- Dogs must be on a lead
- Please clean up after your dog
- Dogs generally NOT welcome at group functions (Happy Hour)

WHITIANGA - COROMANDEL - Coromandel Cruising Caper

- The dates are Saturday 27th April through to Sunday 5th May.
- We will start in Whitianga on the 27th, staying at a fantastic location on the Waterways. There is heaps to do around this area.(bike rides, walks, picnics, swims, drives etc etc).
- On Wednesday 1st May, we move to the NZMCA park in Coromandel and for the next few days, explore this region before departing on the 5th.

South Island Safari - March 2024 - Gentle Annie Campground (13 – 14 March)
Please book ahead if possible.
Outdoor pizza oven, pizza making competition 13th.(bring your best recipe)
Hot tubs and café on site.
Trip to Karamea and Mine tour, from Westport, as per Peter Hope
Fishing, Old Ghost Road Bike track, swimming
Option for those going on the mine tour, as we need to be at the pickup spot in Westport at 9.30 on the 15th, you can travel to the Westport NZMCA, 50 kms, on Thursday afternoon.
Westport (15 March )NZMCA park (register and pay as usual)
Reefton (16-18 March)
Little Biddy Gin tour / tasting. Tastings $25.00. Now making whiskey. Always some good specials on.
Blacks Point Museum and walking, biking tracks at Blacks Point, 2 kms from Reefton.
Many walks, fishing and swimming in Reefton and interesting shops. Great cafes.
17th – a special treat is planned. Meet at 9am, bring your lunch [ I suggest buying it! ] and we will have a tour of a working gold mine plus a whole lot more. BBQ hosted by mine owner, bring own meat etc. More details later. There is no charge for this, but a gift will be purchased.
Waiuta Historic Town – 21 km south of Reefton and 48 kms from Blackball. This is well worth visiting if you can make the time.
NO access for 5th wheels so we are unable to visit en route.
Blackball (19-20 March)
Fishing in the Grey River, swimming, Blackball Hilton Pub, famous salami shop also stocks sausages, bacon, venison patties etc, lots of history around the township, Pike Mine memorial, Paparoa Great walk. Maybe a trip back to the Waiuta Township.
Greymouth (21-22 March)
All the facilities of a campground. If you can book ahead that would be easier. We are in an enclosed grass area on the coast side.
Pot Luck dinner as we can be undercover if necessary.
Trip to Shanty Town.
Camped on the bike track and many walking tracks.
Monteiths Tasting and tour, fishing, jade galleries, swimming, glass blowing, watch or participate.
Pounamu Pathway, a digital and weta workshop experience of the history of the area. $ 45 per adult. 60 – 90 minutes.
Lake Kaniere –(23-24 March) (book and pre pay on DOC website)
Head to the lake, at the 1st intersection at the lake head, keep left, past baches, toilet blocks and turn hard left at the Hans Bay sign and stay on the left to a large area with rubbish and a covered table. There are areas on the right also, we should all fit on the one site on the left.
Swimming, fishing, many bike rides and walks.
Tree top walk, 30 km, or bike there via Lake Mahinapua.
Drive to Hokitika Gorge for a picnic.
Franz Josef (25 March)
Overnight at NZMCA park (register and pay as usual)
Haast (26 March)
Overnight at site organised by Ivan, thank you.
Wanaka (27-28 March)
Large area between Wanaka and the airport for parking as long as you need. Donation. Thank you. Gary Millar.
The bike tracks run all the way down the coast. We can organise for some to bike and others to collect you and return to camp.
